About the Current Issues Forum

The Current Issues Forum explores issues that influence and drive the reinsurance business and its ability to compete and be financially robust.  This year's program features respected industry leaders and political and economic observers who share their unique insight and perspective on prevailing political, economic and market dynamics.  Industry professionals won't want to miss the Forum.

The Current Issues program includes:

  • Inflation and inflation volatility, hyper-competitive pricing and loss reserve development are significant concerns for property-casualty insurers.  Stephan Christiansen, Director of Research, Conning Research and Consulting, addresses the 2010-2012 P&C Insurance and Reinsurance Outlook.
  • A CEO Panel with Janice Abraham, United Educators; Al Beer, St. John's University School of Risk Management; Tim Hegarty, Norfolk & Dedham; Doug Robinson, Utica National; Eric Simpson, TowersWatson; and Ron Simon, Auto-Owners.
  • Political Point-Counterpoint with Mary Kate Cary, Contributing Editor, U.S. News and World Report, and Robert Schlesinger, Opinion Editor, U.S. News and World Report.  Two leading voices in the new, fast-paced online opinion wars that are redefining and reshaping our national debate face off for a debate on the current contentious political landscape.
  • An Economic Perspective with insights and perspective by Larry Adam, Managing Director and Chief Investment Strategist, Deutsche Bank.
  • Changing Role of Regulation with Robert Gordon, SVP of Policy Research and Development, PCIAA; State Rep. Brian Patrick Kennedy, Chair, Commerce, Financial Services and Interstate Commerce Standing Committee, NCOIL; and Sean McGovern, Director, North America, Lloyd's.  These experts weigh in on the relative roles of federal and state solvency oversight, how international solvency requirements will influence the U.S. regulatory environment, and how the increasingly intense regulatory environment will impact business models, capital requirements and governance structures.

And breakout sessions on Risks and Opportunities in the New Run-off World; ACORD--The Latest on E-Trading Initiatives; The State of Terrorism Today; Emerging Claims; Trends in Tort Liability; and GAAP/SEC/IFRS Update.

Our Wednesday night outing this year is the Phillies-Cubs Baseball Game, so remember to indicate that you plan to attend when registering.
