New RAA Re Scholars Announced
The RAA's Re Scholar program recognizes professionals who achieve a high standard of reinsurance education by completing the five core courses of the RAA's Reinsurance Education Institute's curriculum--Re Basics, Re Contracts, Re Underwriting, Re Claims and Re Finance.
Congratulations to Barbara Neidich, Everest Re; Selena Burgess, RenRe; Andrew Douglas, Morrison Mahoney; and Ron Robinson, Berkes Crane Robinson & Seal.
Patrick A. Thiele Scholarship Recipient
 Sofia Bianca Lama, a May 2011 graduate of the University of Puget Sound, has been awarded the Patrick A. Thiele Scholarship for 2011.
The RAA established the Patrick A. Thiele Scholarship in recognition of the long and distinguished career of Mr. Thiele, who retired as Chairman of Partner Re in 2010. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student selected by the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies (BFIS) to attend a RAA reinsurance education program in the U.S. or in Bermuda.
Ms. Lama will attend ReClaims in New York City, September 14-15. She has recently accepted a position with ACE.

CPE Credits: The Reinsurance Association of America is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses. The RAA is a also licensed sponsor with the New York State Board of Public Accountancy, and is registered with the Society of Financial Examiners (SOFE) and the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society (IRES) as an approved provider of continuing education credits.
CPCU CPD Credits: CPCUs attending Bermuda ReBasics can earn CPD points under the Continuing Professional Development Program for CPCUs.
CLE Credits: The number of CLE credits varies by state. Application forms will be filed with individual states as requested by attorney-attendees. All courses are transitional and nontransitional (suitable for both newly-admitted and experienced attorneys).

Kathleen Carroll Named RAA's 2011 ReScholar Educator of the Year
Kathleen (Katie) Carroll, a managing director at Guy Carpenter in Philadelphia, was named the RAA's 2011 ReScholar Educator of the Year. Katie has been an integral part of the RAA's Reinsurance Education Institute for years, and has devoted considerable time and energy to help the RAA plan and execute the Institute's education programs. RAA’s Reinsurance Education Institute Awards ReScholar Certificates
The RAA’s Reinsurance Education Institute will award ReScholar certificates to Guillaume (Gui) James, Assistant Vice President with Axis Re, Bermuda, Ned Hraibi, Senior Claims Analyst with White Mountains Re, and Karen Belanich, Techncal Assistant for Ceded Reinsurance with Arch Insurance Group. Gui, Ned and Karen completed the Institute’s core curriculum of reinsurance programs to achieve the certification—they join Georgina Dill, RenRe, and John Klaus, U.S. Re, who previously earned the ReScholar certification. Congratuations to Gui and Ned.

Andy Castaldi Named 2010 ReScholar Educator of the Year
Andy Castaldi, SVP and Head of Catastrophe Perils at Swiss Re America, has been named Educator of the Year by the RAA’s Reinsurance Education Institute. Andy has been an integral part of the Institute’s Catastrophe Modeling Conference, devoting considerable time and energy to helping the RAA plan and execute the highly successful program. Under Andy’s leadership, the Cat Modeling Conference has become one of the most highly anticipated cat modeling events in the industry.

RAA’s Reinsurance Education Institute Awards ReScholar Certificate
The RAA’s Reinsurance Education Institute recently awarded ReScholar certificates to Georgina Dill, Assistant Vice President and Reinsurance Manager, RenRe, and John Klaus, Assistant Secretary, U.S. RE. The Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies (BFIS) has selected five students to receive Ren Re scholarships to attend the RAA’s ReUnderwriting Bermuda program, March 23-24. The students are:
